A fantastic college coach!, Saturday, 08 May 2010 Written by Kay D'Orlando
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: We started a bit late with Alexis, just before senior year. Alexis had recently moved into our area, and we met him through business associations. It was obvious that Alexis is of good character and would get along with our son, who was not taking enough initiative on the college search. We worked with Alexis for the college application process only. We had used group and individual SAT /ACT tutoring services prior to meeting Alexis. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Alexis helped our son choose schools and kept him on track with the application process. They met about once a week and went over the "home work" and prepared for the next step in this deadline driven task. Alexis helped our son navigate through the on-line application process and worked with him on essay and interviewing tactics. Alexis is realistic and thoughtful about the college choices available. He is intuitive and quickly understood our son's needs, interests, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. He enables the student to makes their own decisions, but ensures appropriateness and success. Our son really enjoyed working with Alexis and felt very comfortable being open with him. I believe he will stay in touch with Alexis throughout college. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: Our son was admitted to 6 of the 10 colleges he applied to. He had a selection of easy, just right, and long reach schools. He was admitted with merit money to Dickinson, University of Vermont and Elon. He was admitted to American University and University of Delaware. He was admitted to the Scholar's program at Hofstra. It came down to Dickinson or American and he chose American, where I think he will be able to learn a lot and have fun too. Since going through this process with Alexis, our son has become more responsible, more self sufficient and more comfortable promoting himself. Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes
