Best of the Best, Thursday, 01 July 2010 Written by Joshua
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: I hired Jeannie in beggining of senior year, on a whim, after not liking the progress on my essays with my other college counselor. I had big dreams for college, and Jeannie seemed perfect. I mainly chose Jeannie for help on my essays, but she helped me in so many ways. I found Jeannie on the internet, and boy am I lucky I did. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: I worked with Jeannie herself. I first sat down for an hour with Jeannie to discuss the essays, and then we mainly corresponded via email. Her comments on my essay, were insighftul, and helped me (without doing it for me-- a difficult balance that Jeannie masters). She literally transformed my essays! And, most importantly, always answered my emails right away -- even though i was a late student! RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: Jeannie got me into Wharton Business school at UPENN. I am one hundred percent sure that this would not have happened without jeannie. She must be in the top 3 college counselors in the country! I cannot imagine anyone better. Stop reading now, and call Jeannie immediately -- you will not be dissapointed! Thank you so much Jeannie Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

Jeannie was an amazing aid during my college appli, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 Written by Alex Kirk
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: My parents found Jeannie for me when I was about to start my senior year. I was attending a public high school and was trying to get into an ivy, so they figured the incredible competition at the schools I was looking at justified hiring a college aid. They looked at multiple services (some of which cost upwards of 7 times what Jeannie's aid cost) and they determined Jeannie seemed to have a lot to offer at an amazingly reasonable price. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Hands down the most important service she offered was reviewing essays; I like to think of myself as being a pretty good writer, but I had no idea what sort of material colleges were looking for/what they are used to seeing. Jeannie not only was able to help me figure out what made sense to write about, but she also helped me improve my writing to be some of the best I have ever done. I'm not sure to the cent how much it cost to get Jeannie's help, but I'm sure it was worth whatever the cost was. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: My dream school had always been the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, but I never really thought I had much of a chance. With Jeannie's help I wound up getting accepted (I had a stack of about 15 more applications ready to go but I thanks to Jeannie I never needed to send them). I fully recommend Jeannie as a consultant because she helps relieve some of the college stress. I had done a good deal of independent research about how to get into colleges, but I had no idea how to actually go about applying. Jeannie was able to help me best compile my application and essays and was also able to answer some of my highly specific questions I could never find answers to elsewhere. Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

Jeannie was the best gift ever from my parents!, Thursday, 05 March 2009 Written by Elizabeth
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: My parents made me meet with Jeannie. I was scared, overwhelmed and not ready to deal with this whole college thing. Since I got to a well known private school, I didn't think I needed help. Mostly, I felt completely unprepared to start the application process. On our first visit, I barely said a word. Jeannie asked me a million questions, and I must have seemed like an idiot because most of my answers were "I don't know." I'm sure she thought I was a surly teenager, but I was just scared to death. I left her office, without giving her a lot of insight, but inside I felt 100% better. She made me feel she would help me get through this process, and that she could help me focus and strategize for all my applications. I was still scared, but felt that with Jeannie I was on the right track. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Jeannie really helped me streamline my essays. I would write them, my mom would give me her feedback, and we would both feel like they were pretty good. However, in Jeannie's hands, "pretty good" turned out to be VERY GOOD. Her comments were clear and I had no problem redoing my essays with her notes. Also, she was really fast in her responses and I especially loved that she would email me. This time of year is so crazy so it was nice to be able to email rather than have to meet face to face all the time. My parents said financially Jeannie was the "best deal in town" RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: I applied to 10 schools. I have gotten into 9 so far. For some of those schools, I did not have the GPA or SAT scores that they required. Jeannie helped me overcome my deficits and made my applications shine in terms of everything else. Most importantly, my #1 choice was a school that I did have the stats they wanted. Jeannie was very upfront and told me it was definitely a "reach" school for me, but she did not discourage me from applying. Instead, she made sure my application was the best it could be to impress the admissions officers. She then called the college on my behalf which I believe helped. I can say without a doubt, and i would say this to any student or parent that Jeannie made the difference in me getting accepted into my #1 college. Without Jeannie I believe I would have gotten a rejection letter, instead of the wonderful acceptance letter I received! Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

HIRE JEANNIE BORIN TODAY! SHE WILL BE YOUR COLLEGE, Saturday, 28 February 2009 Written by Lisa, Parent
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: Believe it or not, I found Jeannie online. I talked to a number of people over the phone, as well as some others recommended by other parents. Immediately, I felt not only did she "know her stuff" but most importantly, she would be a guiding force in this crazy world of college applications. My daughter attends a small, private school and although our college counselor is amazing, we feel that Jeannie was a main reason my daughter got into as many schools as she did, including her #1 choice. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: We used Jeannie mostly for the essay and application process. My daughter knew what schools she wanted to apply to,but she was totally overwhelmed of even how to begin. From the very first meeting, Jeannie took her by the hand and assured her "everything would be alright." Just that initial meeting convinced me Jeannie would be the difference between a calm and peaceful application process vs. a frentic,, crazy panic time. Jeannie was OUTSTANDING in her esasy help. She made it so simple. My daughter would write her essays, email them to Jeannie and in less than 24 hours, she would get clear, concise and fantastic notes back. We believe that having Jeannie as our college counselor is the main reason our daughter got into so many colleges. Our daughter did not have a fantastic GPA, so Jeannie was able to show us how to highlight her strengths, and overcome her weaknesses. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: Without a doubt, our daughter (and her parents) believe that she got into her #1 school because of Jeannie Borin. Our daughters GPA and SACT scores were not up to par for her #1 college, but Jeannie helped her construct an application that told the college that if they acceptd our daughter, they were getting a hard-working, tenancious quality young lady. I am a very organized parent and make a living out of writing...and I know now that even with that, I could have never helped my daughter to get into her #1 school. Our daughter applied to 8 colleges and got into every single one - despite the fact, that she didn't always have the GPA they wanted. Jeannie knows what the colleges want, and how to help your child, not matter how overwhelmed and nervous they are. I recommend her 110% and we plan on using her next year for our son. HIRE HER...IT WILL BE THE BEST DECISION YOU EVER MAKE. SHE TRULY TAKES THE CRAZINESS OUT OF THIS RIDICULOUS PROCESS!! Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

Jeannie Borin is amazing, Friday, 02 May 2008 Written by Rebecca Epstein
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: I wanted someone that really knew what she was doing and that could take the time to really help me get into, and choose, the best college for me.I go to Pali High, a charter High school with roughly 3000 students Jeannie was recommended by a friend. We chose Jeannie because she was highly recommended We met with a number of different counselors, but Jeannie was by far the best, most experienced, and most enjoyable person to work with. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Jeannie was amazing. She really took the time to help me get exactly what I wanted. I had no idea what I was getting into, where I wanted to go, or how to go about applying. Jeannie helped me to figure out the types of things that I was looking for, and find a great set of colleges to apply to. She helped me with every part of the application-she was always patient, helpful, and careful, going over absolutely everything to make sure that it was absolutely the best that it could be. As a result, I got into more schools then I ever thought I would, and am so excited to go to college. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: I was admitted to: UC Davis UC San Diego UC Santa Barbara] UC Santa Cruz Syracuse University Clark University Dickinson College Boston University I am going to Syracuse Jeannie was fantastic. She discussed all of the colleges that I was thinking about, asked me questions, and helped me to figure out ways to narrow it down, and figure out what was right for me. But the best thing about Jeannie is that she truly cares-I never got the feeling that she was annoyed or that I was just another client-she truly cared where I was going, that I did the best that I could, and that I was happy. Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: There was virtually no counseling at the self- described "college Prep" high school. As parents we did not feel we had the time nor resources to do as thorough a job as was desired. We tried our combined best but in August of the Senior year looked for professional help. We came by a few by word of mouth referrals and selected this one based on the caliber of the student who referred as well as the impression of the professional. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: college connections-Jeannie Borin. She did everything we needed.$3000.00 Especially good with essay help. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: She was admitted to all she applied to (UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine,Cal State San Diego, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Northridge(except USC)Final choice was UCLA.I give the counselor ALL the credit for helping with this succcess. Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: At the end of junior year my parents and I were meeting with different college counselors, but non seemed truly interested in me and my goals. My parents and I decided to do the college process on our own. The first time I met with Jeannie was in September in a panic, all my friends already had college counselors and were well on their way. After calling Jeannie for ACT tutoring, (I was mistaken thinking she was a tutor) I found her so kind an informative with the tutors she recommended me, that I knew I had to call her back for her to help in the application process. I set up the meeting with Jeannie, my parents were skeptical, but after the first meeting we all knew she was perfect. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: I have never been a student that has been set on a certain college, so Jeannie helped me compile a list of schools that I felt passionate about. She made a time line for all essays, applications, and recommendations. Jeannie Borin truly went above and beyond the role I ever expected her to fill. She gave me confidence in my own writing and did everything in her power to make sure that I was accepted to every school that I longed to go to, even speaking to the school herself. She helped me brain-storm, edit, and perfect my essays, but made sure that I always did the work and that it was always coming from me. As an insecure individual concerning school, she made me feel brilliant. I met with her once a week a week until I was almost done with all the application, at that point we met once every two weeks. In between meetings we would email. She responded quickly, and always kept me updated on due dates and with reminders. Jeannie was truly a perfect college counselor because she doesn't coddle (she expects great work out of her students and returns that with great work herself) , but helps students with every concern. She charged around $750 for 4 hours, I believe, but she has different options for payment plans. Both my parents and I feel it was one of the best investments they have ever made. She took all my stress away, while helping me to achieve the best work I have ever done. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: I was admitted to all the schools that I applied to except one. Before meeting Jeannie, my best hope was for UCSB, but I didn't think I would get in. I have since been admitted to UCSB, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and wait listed at Colorado College. The only school I was rejected from was USC, a school I really didn't have to much desire to go to anyways. This fall with the help of Jeannie, I have decided to attend UCLA, and I couldn't be happier. Without her counseling I truly believe the schools would never know how truly well rounded I am. I don't think I would be accepted to a large majority of them without her help. Friends with much better grades and test scores were rejected from school I was accepted to. Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

Jeannie Borin is simply amazing at what she does!!, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 Written by Mina Azarnoush
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: It was the end of my junior year, and although I wanted to put off the college application process as much as possible, I knew that if I wanted to have any chance at getting into a good school that would work for me, I would need a good College Counselor and Advisor. Nobody else in my family had gone to college in the US, and I am the oldest of two siblings in my family, so we were almost completely clueless about what to do, other than some slightly information my school had given me. I heard about Jeannie Borin (College Connections), through my SAT tutor. I had a consultation with one other college counselor (whose name I will not say) before meeting with Jeannie, but when I met Jeannie, I knew that she was the right counselor for me. The other counselor I had a consulation with, made me feel nervous and also was talking about a lot of things that I didn't understand. Jeannie made everything simple, organized and efficient; she also helped to calm me down, but kept me on track. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: I worked only with Jeannie Borin, who did everything you could ever expect a college counselor to do and more. Jeannie set out a timeline with me, of what I should do over the summer before Senior Year, as well as during senior year. Jeannie and I met periodically, and also communicated a lot via email. Jeannie made sure I stayed on track with everything and was advising me and offering me help every step of the way. She came up with what I daresay was the perfect college list (list of colleges to apply to), and helped me with applying to each of them. Jeannie helped and advised me about everything from choosing schools and setting up a schedule to correcting, editing, and brainstorming for essays. I do not remember exactly how much Jeannie's services cost (although I think it was somewhere around $150 per hour, but my memory is not that reliable) but I can say that it was definetly well worth it. It is hard to name just one contribution to the process that was most valuable. Everything Jeannie did helped so much; she responded surprisingly fast to emails, she made a perfect college list for me, and provided amazing counseling and advising every step of the way. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: I was admitted to almost all of the schools on my college list, which are too many to name, but I was admitted to my First Choice (NYU) and Second Choice (UC Berkeley). I have been talking with Jeannie about where to attend, and with Jeannie great advice, I have decided to attend UC Berkeley. Jeannie's counseling played a large role in my admittance to these schools. It is possible that without Jeannie's advising I would not have gotten into these schools, as well as others on my list. Transfer applicant, Thursday, 17 May 2007 Written by Allison Whorton
Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: I hired a private consultant in January of 2007. I am a freshman at the University of Washington and I have been unhappy since the beginning of the year. It was not where I had expected to go and while I made an effort to be happy, things have not worked out. I knew that I needed a change but because I was not in high school, I was a bit disconnected from the college application process and I put it all behind me. My parents researched college counselors in the LA area and I went to one woman who was intimidating and impersonal, and she made me fearful about reapplying places. My father found Jeannie and because I was up in Seattle for college, I only communicated with her through e-mail and telephone for the most part. This was totally okay because Jeannie was completely supportive and personal and she made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout the entire process. She is responsible, organized, and really knows what she is talking about. She made sure to really get to know me; I filled out different surveys and had long talks with her about what I wanted out of my college experience. We had multiple long phone conversations in which she guided me through essay writing, filling out applications, and other factors that go into this stressful process. Jeannie knew that the outcome of my original application process was not as successful as I had hoped, leaving me quite anxious about trying again. Jeannie helped me focus on writing strong essays that really expressed how I feel and what I am interested in instead of focussing on the potential for being rejected again. I went to a small private school in Los Angeles, and initially I auditioned for theatre arts schools (and either got rejected or waitlisted). I was very upset and chose my current university on a complete whim, even though I knew it was not a good fit for me. When I began my second college application process in January and after discussing my passions and needs with Jeannie, I decided that smaller, liberal arts schools would be the best fit for me. I applied to schools such as Sarah Lawrence, Skidmore, Eugene Lang, Pitzer, and Connecticut College. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Jeannie Borin always remained optimistic but she also remained practical, which was very helpful. Applying as a Transfer student is different than applying as a freshman applicant and different factors go into the final decisions. She helped extensively with my essays, constantly editing my work and guiding me in the right direction. She did not put words in my mouth but rather helped me get my thoughts in order. She answered all questions - and if she did not know the answer she did research. She understood that I had other obligations, especially as a college student, and she never made me feel stressed. She also called different schools for me "earmarking" my applications. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: I was admitted to Sarah Lawrence, Skidmore, and Connecticut College. I was rejected from Pitzer, and I am still waiting to hear from Eugene Lang. Transfer notifications are all sent out at different times because each application has a very different due dates, but as of now I think I am going to Sarah Lawrence and I am very excited. I know that this type of school is the best fit for me as opposed to a very large state school. Jeannie helped me realize that getting into good schools as a Transfer student is in fact possible, and she helped me stay on top of things and remain responsible - which could be difficult when we were communicating strictly through phone and e-mail. There is no way that I could have done it without her help, and she was great even when I was in a completely different city & state swamped with college work. Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: I requested help with my college applications that my parents could not give (such as editing my essays, knowing how colleges react to prompts and qualifications, etc). My parents hired Jeannie in October to help me with my applications.I wanted to go to the school that would prepare me most for a career in medicine, my dream for a long time. Jeannie helped me choose several top quality UCs as well as out of state private schools as well as schools that had combined or accelerated degree programs in medicine. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Jeannie's most valuable contributions to my application process were not only her editing skills on my essays but general advice and confidence in my abilities. She strengthened the traits and accomplishments I already had and taught me how to show myself off to colleges more in my essays. She didn't try to make me someone I am not.The most important part of her help to me was her help with my interview at UCSD for their Medical Scholars Program. I had no idea what to expect beyond the usual "Why do you want to be a doctor" question, and she made an appointment with me at her office in LA so we could speak face-to-face about the questions they would ask. After all that practice, I felt totally at ease during my interview and eventually got the program! She is considerate and sweet enough to care about what happens to her students even after they hit "submit" on their applications (she also helped me write a letter to the colleges I was waitlisted at, so her advice and help definitely doesn't stop until after you're sure you know where you're going). She was the one who offered to meet with me to help me with this interview, and it ended up making all the difference for me. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: Here are my college results:Accepted: UCSD (with 8-year medical scholars program), UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Davis, Boston University (with scholarship), Rice University, and Northwestern University.Waitlisted: Brown University, Harvard University, Stanford University.I ended up choosing UCSD with their 8-year medical program because I really did not believe I would get the same opportunities to do independent research and work with patients anywhere else. This program is by application and interview, and only 12 people in the state get chosen for the program. I honestly believe that though I am qualified to be in this program, the application committee would not have seen my strengths without Jeannie's help with my essays and interviews. It has meant so much to me. Would you recommend this consultant or hire them again?: yes

Narrative Review (More detail = more helpful) BACKGROUND & GOALS: We hired a private consultant to review our list of chosen colleges, review essays and to review the finished application. We hired Jeannie Borin in September, 2006.Max attends(graduates 6/2007) Calabasas High School. He wanted to apply to local universities as well as out of state colleges. I met Jeannie in Office Depot where we struck up a conversation. I immediately liked her personality, thought she was delightful. I asked her about her profession, and was ecstatic to hear she was a college consultant. We had previously interviewed 3 consultants, none of which we made any connection with whatsoever. I asked Jeannie for her card, and later set up an appointment. We chose her first of all, because she understood our needs, and did not try to mold Max into someone he was not. Many consultants like to stick to a strict routine, Max is not that kind of student. He is a straight A student, but he is not neurotic and was not a kid who would have his applications done weeks before the due date. They were done a day or 2 before the deadline. Jeannie always reviewed his essays and applications and responded quickly. If Max emailed essays in the evening, he came home from school and they were edited. Jeannie worked with you and tailored a program just for your needs. The other consultants we spoke to were rigid. One charged 2800.00 for the whole process. We did not need that much assistance. Another consultant was pessimistic, that is exactly the opposite of our attitude. Jeannie encouraged applying to reach schools, but also had great back up schools. She showed us ways to make his applications stand out, especially on his USC application, which was his first choice. Truthfully, had we not met her in Office Depot, we would not have hired any consultant. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Jeannie works with you in 4 block hours. That worked out perfectly. The most valuable contribution was her feedback on essays. The essay opens the window to your soul. She had excellent editing skills. She was so knowledgeable in so many areas, and was very on target on helping max with his list(reach, 50/50, safety)We knew his reach schools were difficult to get into with loads of competition. He mainly cared about USC, and Jeannie knew this and gave us tremendous help and pointers. He got into USC. RESULTS & FINAL THOUGHTS: Max was admitted to NYU, University of Miami(with scholarship), Boston University(with scholarship), University of Arizona honors program(with scholarship), UC Santa Barbara honors program, UC Berkeley and USC. He has enrolled at USC, which was a reach school and his first choice. She reviewed his applications prior to submission, and also made some suggestions which were helpful in making him stand out.
